Billie Eilish Addresses Body Shaming in Short Film

Originally created for a world tour, now available for everyone to see. Billie Eilish released an influential short film she created called NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY.

The short narration made its debut in Miami, which was Eilish’s first stop of her global tour this year. However, with the coronavirus pandemic putting a halt on the rest of the singer songwriter’s tour, Eilish shared the piece online.

In the short film, Eilish’s face partially fades in from the darkness and transitions to a shadowy close-up of the artist gradually undressing. Over a somber-electronic rhythm, Eilish is narrating throughout the film on the subject of body shaming.

The high-powered film addresses perspectives and vocal opinions that have been made toward the young artist. She starts her message with, “Do you know me? Really know me?”

“Would you like me to be quiet? Do my shoulders provoke you? Does my chest? Am I my stomach? My hips? the body I was born with is it not what you wanted?”
